Pontiac Repair: turn signals not working, chevy guy, newer cars

Question
Todd,
The turn signals & hazzards have quit working on my 1998 monte carlo w/ 3.1 engine. When you flip the switch, nothing. Nothing lights up at all. All other lights & accessories seem ok. Bulbs are fine & fuse seems ok.Any suggestions? Thanks, Dave.

Answer
Hi David:

well it can be a few things. first off check the fuses. that car has 2 fuses boxes on in the car and one under the hood. check both boxes in case you only checked the 1 box. I'm not sure on that car if the t/s and 4 way are seperate switches I'm not a chevy guy. on a grand prix of that same vintage they are the same switch. if it were a grand prix it could either be the turn/4way switch is bad in the column or the turn/4way flasher module. I'll assume the Monte has an all in one switch as well and same thing either the combo switch or the flasher module. If I were to guess I would say the flasher module is bad. on the newer cars they combined 2 flashers into one solid state module. I would go that directing first and see if that is it. The flasher module looks like a relay the old fashioned tin can flahers are no more. Good luck :)
