Pontiac Repair: 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.4, coolant temperature sensor, throttle position sensor

Question
I have a 94 Grand Prix.  I just recently traded my old car for it.  Well, When it's warm outside, when I start the car, it will rev up then shut off.. The only way to keep it on is to step on the gas for a few minutes until it idle's out really rough.  Then I have to keep warming it up until it will idle out smooth.  I got into a car accident a few weeks before i got out of school in november and then it got really cold.. the funny thing is, after it got cold it started up no problem!  Now its warmed up again and its doing the same thing.  We've replaced the EGR Sensor, the TPS, and got the Coolant Temperature Coolant Sensor but can't find out where it goes.  We've looked in repair manuals online and it's not where it says that it should be.  My question is A) Is it the Coolant Temperature Sensor or something else and B) If it is the temperature coolant sensor, where does it go????

Answer
Hi Nicole:

my guess is this car has a leaking intake manifold gasket. when it's cold out the aluminum contracts and the gasket lets in un metered air to the engine. it's a pretty common issue with this engine but had to find if your not looking in the right place. The other issue this could have is a bad A/C pressure sensor. at times when you start the car that sensor will short out and cause the throttle position sensor to give the computer an incorrect reading and make the engine run fast. that is not as common as the gasket leaking. good luck :}
