Pontiac Repair: 93 pontiac grand am 6 cylindar, mass air sensor, mass air flow sensor

Question
The best way to describe it is car is acting like it is running out of gas even though it has a full tank. It will buck as though not getting gas and then sometimes it will accelarate by itself like someone just stepped down on the gas pedel.  Sometimes while this is happening I will hear a tapping noise in the engine like the engine is shaking. It happens the most when the car is at an idle and in drive.  It happens alot when the car is driving in the 30 to 45 mile range and when the car is idling in drive.  If I drive fast or when I put it into park it seems to help alot. Although it is starting to happen alot more it does not do it all the time and evertime I try to show someone it doesn't do it. Car did recently have spark plugs replaced and fuel injectors cleaned. Don't know if this has anything to do with it but the muffler/exhaust sounds a tad bit louder.

Answer
hi Shannon:

it more than likely is running out of fuel either due to a bad fuel pump or plugged fuel filter or possibly a bad mass air flow sensor. the mass air sensor is mounted on the throttle body assembly it is a black square box with a 3 wire connector on it. unplug it and drive it to see how it ruuns. the service engine light will come on with it unplugged but if it runs better you found the problem.
good luck :}
