Pontiac Repair: 1994 grand am 2.3, 4 cyl. se, coolant temp, electric cooling fan

Question
overtemp. light, and gauge, both come on.  changed thrermostat and the coolant temp. sensor.  still overheat's.. but does't steam. but it will push fluid out the cap????

Answer
Hi Dan:

2 thoughs #1 does the electric cooling fan turn on when the temp rises? Does this car have A/C if so and it still works turn on the A/C that should turn the fan on before the engine gets up to temp. If not that is the way you have to look for either a fan motor is bad ot the control circuit for the fan. #2 a bad head gasket causing this to overheat just because it's not smoking out the tail pipe doesn't man that is doesn't have a blown gasket. I would do a coolant pressure test and see if your loosing pressure.
