Porsche Repair: clutch pedal click, porsche engineers, clutch pedal

Question
911 targa 2003. I hear a "click" when I depress the clutch pedal and also when I release it. Does it whether the car is moving or not. Seems to me to be mechanical? No other symptoms, car has about 10,000 miles. Any thoughts?

Answer
Art, this is not an area I have any specific 911 experience...certainly there is no comparable clutch noise on a 356.

But, I have a guess.  I'm surprised you'd actually hear any sound because Porsche is pretty careful about concealing extraneous sounds...but let's assume for the moment that there is one (or many) sensor looking for real time information on the position of the clutch pedal.  Why?  I can't quite think of a reason for this at the moment, but I'm sure many Porsche engineers have....

What you are hearing, I supect, is a switch, similar to the brake switch, that activates each time the clutch pedal passes by.

I assume with your low mileage, the car is under warranty...so this seems like a perfect question for your Service Manager.
