Porsche Repair: 1981 Porsche 928, throttle linkage, porsche 928

Question
When I start my porsche up it will idle correctly for about 15 mins., then it will cut off. When I drive it it will continue to run as long as I dont come to a complete stop,  then it cuts off again. As long as I have my foot on the gas petal and hold it, it will idle.  Can you help me? I was told that it may be the fuel presure regulator.

Answer
Greg,

There are a couple areas that sometimes cause stalling like you describe.  But in this case, because you'd found how to work around the problem with your right foot...it seems pretty obvious the idle speed is set too low.  This could be because the idle screw is just simply not turned in enough; or, because the throttle linkage has developed some play over the years, and the linkage isn't providing just a slight amount of 'preload'.  These two things I've mentioned would accomplish the same thing as your right foot.

I wouldn't look at the fuel regulator until after I was sure a complete tune-up had been done,,,including setting the timing perfectly; and, the throttle linkage was perfect.
