RV Repair: power converter, 12 volt batteries, jumper wires


Question
QUESTION: my lights go off with out any of the breakers tripping or blowing a fuse on my the breaker side one of the breakers is connected to something when i turn it off the light switch to the battery then sometimes when i turn back on the lights will come back on when they come back on they may stay on for a min.or two then off then sometimes i can turn it back on

a few of us are thinking that it may be a bad ground someware
but i went on this site and i did not see any thing that sounding the same
and also when they do come on the lights are very bright
i bought a new battery and i happen to find a converter box on creigs list so i replace it and it is doning the same
after i put the new battery in the lights go off even faster and will not reset for quite some time
so keep up your good work and help me out ha ha ha
the funny thing is that this just happen cause i been cleaning it all winter and then it just happend go figure

Hi again,
 If the lights are coming on very bright the shuts off. This sound to me like there might be an overload somehow. Have you put a volt meter on the light socket to ck what the voltages is? Anything over 15 volts is way too high. I have seen X files like this on coaches that had dual batteries and when the customer replace them. They wired 12 volt batteries in to series witch gave an output of 24 volts instead of 12 volts. I have also seen converter wired hot to ground and ground to hot. The result was the same problem. Those are a few things to check. I would wire a few jumper wires to the ground side of the light sockets and the other end to the frame just to check for loose grounds. Let me know what you find.
