RV Repair: Onan Microlite 4000 Generator, southwind storm, generator repair

Question
I just got a 1995 Southwind Storm MH and when I 1st started the generator it ran. The last time I started it it was running rough and serging. My wife turned on the microwave while it was running rough and the microwave stopped running. She turned the generator off and now I cannot get it to fire. It sounds like it is going to fire but it doesn't. Two of the electrical outlets in the living room do not work. I checked the GFI in the bathroom and it seems OK. I checked fuses and I could not find any blown. I checked the breakers and I could not find any that were tripped. I was thinking that there might be another GFI somewhere but I cannot locate one. Can you offer any ideas as to what is wrong and what I can do to fix it? Thank you.

Answer
It is hard to say what happened. First off make sure that you have at least 1/4 tank of fuel if it is run by gasoline, because motor homes are designed to only allow generators to run until you reach 1/4 tank. In that way you are not supposed to be able to run your motor home out of gas. Second on microlite's you never run them when the door is off. There are a couple of breakers on the generator that might need to be reset. Plus they have a summer and winter setting for them to run. Make sure all that is correct. Check to see that fuel is being pumped to the generator and that the fuel filter is clean. If you have fuel there and it is turning over acting like it wants to start but won't I suggest that you take it to a generator repair shop that handles Onan. 3 things that make it run are fuel, compression and spark. Never adjust anything on the generator because all adjustments are done while it is running and should be done by a professional.
