RV Repair: Air conditioner in Terry 2006, rv service center, ampage

Question
Larry,

We have a brand new 2006 Terry travel trailer model 3102BDS.  We have been at the same camp site since July 1.  2 weeks ago I was drying my hair with a hair dryer and the ac running, tv and some lights.  The breaker flipped off.  It took me a while to locate the breaker box, but I found it and turned the breaker back on.  Again, I started drying my hair and it flipped the breaker off.  After I turned it back on, I dried my hair with just the light on.  Afterward, I turned on the AC.  It started up, then I heard the compressor come on and it just sort of hummed.  I didnt notice at first, but it isnt cooling.  My camper got extremely warm.  We had the manager of the campground come down and test the ampage and that is fine.  Does it sound like the capacitor to you?  The RV service center where we purchased the RV says they think its an ampage issue, but we camped for 6 weeks without incident.
I'm at my wits end and have missed some lovely camping weather.

Thank you.

Rebecca

Answer
Hi Rebecca:

Due to the sequence of events that led to the compressor not restarting, it is possible that the capacitor is defective. To be honest with you, its rare for them to go bad, but certainly not unheard of. The only other thing it could be, would be the compressor itself.

To determine which one is the source of the problem, definitely start with the capicator. I hope you can find someone locally to test it out for you.

If I can be of further service to you, please do not hesitate to contact me.
