RV Repair: odor in cassette cavity, gasket kits, holding tank

Question
just bought a 1995 palomino with a thetford casette toilet. the camper has a chemical smell in it. with the holding tank removed the odor presists. in examining the cassettte cavity i found blue liquid in sevral plastic nooks. could this toilet have leaked or over flowed at some time, perhaps soaking in to the wood. the smell seems to be coming from the plastic that lines the cassette cavity. is there a cure? thanks ,Phil.

Answer
Well the blue you see is toilet chemical which is good but to get the odour out of the toilet it would have to be taken apart and cleaned and disenfected well.  It probally did not leak but when travelling it may of splashed around these should be emptied when camping is done.  The advantage to taking this apart is to replace any seals and gaskets which would be good to do seeing as it is a 95.  Seal and gasket kits if available should come with instructions on the repair.
