RV Repair: electrical RV, ac to dc, water pump

Question
I have a 1976 Chevrolet,Jamboree
The light and water pump sometimes will not come on. I can disconnect the positive wires on the battery in the side compartment and connect them back and it will come on.  I am wondering if the switch that turns from AC to DC is going bad. If so, where is it located?

Answer
If your converter was going bad you would have no 12 volt items working at all, all your lights, fan for your furnace etc.  the converter is what converts your ac to dc and in older units they are a large box which usually contains your fuses and you can usually hera a hum from the transformer in this converter.  As for your light and pump keeping in mind that you have other 12 volt items working i would check your ground circuit for these items.  Now these will be fused somewhere check voltage at the fuse to ensure you have 12 volts.
