I have a 2000 Coachmen Class C on a Ford E450 chassis. The rear turn signals are weak and when I hook up my cargo trailer they are even worse. The voltage is only 6. Got any ideas?
Answer -
It sounds as though you have a bad ground, I would first check your voltage at the fuse block and if the voltage is good there check at the socket on the turn signals. most of the time it will be a bad ground at the turn signal. Clean the connections and re-try. You may have to remove the tail light assembly and check those grounds as well.

I established a ground from the negative side of the battery directly back to the trailer. The problem is low voltage at the rear connection and low voltage about half-way up where the main power source is connected. I know that the ground is OK.

Answer
Sounds like the only thing left is a +side connection. I would check the power before and after the harness reaches the taillight assembly. There may be an inline breaker on that model that is about the size of a flasher with studs sticking out on one side. Normally these would be near the connector or assembly and it may be corroded. You can strip away the wrapping on the harness in different areas and check it all the way back to find the drop. It is not something that is common to these vehicles. If you just purchased the vehicle and the turn signals are the only problem I would double check and see if the bulbs are the correct ones for this application. At this point I would be guessing on anything else.
