RV Repair: Awning Repair, rv awning, local shop

Question
The 18 foot rv awning has a 2 to 3 in tear at one end next to the trailer. The local shop can trim and resew for a reasonalbe rate. What is the easiet way to remove the fabric from the trailer to take it in for repair?

Answer
I would call them and ask if you can bring the whole unit in, most shops will do that because they are used to taking it apart or repairing it on the frame. When you take these apart it can quickly become a nightmare. If you have to remove it you will need to take it off the trailer and remove the set screws that are in the canopy at the top, slide it out of the runner and then slide it out of the roller the same way, this is where you have to be careful because of the tension on the roller, you can clamp it in place but you need to do it on both sides. If the canopy doesnt have the room to slide off the roller then you will need to remove the suppurt struts to remove it. When removing the struts you will need to drill out the rivets at the top on the caps and secure the caps so it does not spin, most caps or mounted to the axle. Like I said it can be a nightmare if you have never done it. If you need to remove it post here again and I will look up your brand and get some instructions for you.
