RV Repair: rv floor repair, wet carpet, happy camping

Question
I need some advice on floor repair in a 18 foot 1972 bellevue trailer. I bought it last fall and when I opened it up this spring, the floor was completely rotted. The previous owner had placed a piece of ply and tiles over wet carpet. What can I do? I have removed the first layer of ply and tiles but I dont know what can be under the rotted ply that is left. Please let me know what has to be done. Are there 2x4's or metal supports, what do I do with the insulation?
Any answers will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,
Stacey Lancaster

Answer
Stacey,
There should be floor joists running about every two feet under the plywood.  You will have to remove all the damaged wood and replace the floor joists as needed, adding additional framing for added support.  Once you have it framed back in you can lay down the new plywood and whatever floor covering you wish.  If the insulation is wet I would throw it away and replace with new before laying the new plywood down.  Good luck and happy camping.
