RV Repair: front end shimmy, ford chassis, pace arrow

Question
-------------------------
I have not replaced the front shocks, they are bilsteins.  I have been told by both shops that wouldn't cause my problem. Sounds like shocks can cause it? Camping world has a diferent type of stabaliser to the tune of about $350 should I need such a aperatus? Thanks for your coment on everthing is not great,  as I have the problem, the everything is great comes from the shops!!! How do I do the old crow bar test? this has been very frustrating at best. Thanks for your time!!! Mark

Question -
I have a 1993 38 ft Pace Arrow motor home on a ford chassis with 34000 miles. I have a terrable front end bump shimmy it doesn't happen all the time but it seems like if I hit a bumpy diaginal over pass or a series of bumps it will start it. It has happend between 40 and 65 mph . I have had the front end looked at and aligned by 2 diferent qualified shops, They say every thing looks great. I am on the road so I cannot go back to the same shops. they have adjusted the front alignment the caster is curently at 31/2 deg.was at 5. I have a new steering stabaliser and the tires have been balaced and rotated, tire preasure is correct, the brakes are not sticking. any Ideas?  Thanks  Mark

Everything in the front end is not "great" or the coach would not be doing what it is doing.  You have worn ball joints or king pins or tie rod ends. You might have a cracked frame. Have you replaced the front shocks lately?
Looking at them will not diagnose if they are worn or not.  Someone is going to have to give them the "crow bar test" to see if there is any looseness.

Answer
You place a breaker bar between two components, put some leverage on them and see if they more.
Most front end mechanics just give them a twist and that tells you nothing.
What is happening is something is worn to the point that once you get it loose, it loosens up the entire front end, thus the shimmy.
