RV Repair: Rotted wood replacement, seam tape, shoe molding

Question
-Thank you for your reply. I'm prity sure this has to be done from the outside, the siding is in sheets not one molded piece. The frame is what has rotted, mainly on the bottom. You can see the wood is no good at the point where the molded fiberglass front piece mets the side wall at the bottom corner. Is the siding glued? And can it be pealed back to the point the wood is good, and then replace the wood and then put the siding back.
         Thanks again

The wood in the bedroom wall of my 1990 Teton fifth wheel is rotted and must be replaced. How do I go about doing this and how difficult is it.

Bill,
You said the wood in the wall is rotten, do you mean the paneling or the framing?  If its just the paneling you can probably cut it out where it's bad and replace it with a new sheet and then trim the room out with some shoe molding, batten molding and seam tape.  If the framing is rotten you may be able to do that from inside as well depending on the extent of the damage (if your unit is fiberglass you will want to do it from inside).  Once again just cut out the damaged wood and replace it, adding additional reinforcement where necessary and where you will need to attach the new paneling.  I hope this helps, good luck and happy camping.

Answer
Bill,
You can try to pull the fiberglass siding back, and it might come loose fairly easily where water has penetrated and ruined the wood.  Where it is still glued to dry wood is going to be another story.  I would plan on replacing the panel but if you do this repair inside you might try it before you order the panel.  Good luck.
