Saab Repair: play in neutral gate, shift button, shift boot

Question
Hello,
1992 900 t 5 spd.  while shifting into 5th, you can stop in neutral and move the stick way to the right.  I remember on my 9000 1993, I accidentally put the shift boot stick assembly in the wrong area and this happened.  I took it apart again and moved the stick 1/4 turn and the problem was cured.  Is this the same deal?

Answer
I have not worked on anything that old for years so my details may be scetchy. There is a tapered pin at the bottom of the shifter handle. This is adjustable and needs likely to be adjusted so it is longer. Take the handle out of the car, remove the pin which secures the tapered pin and then you can rotate it, it is threaded on. This should get the shifter to not go over so far. Another symptom you should be getting is that you don't have to pull upon the shift button to get into reverse. This adjustment will likley fix that also.
