Saab Repair: Engine Blown... how do I tell if no oil was added?, differential service, saab dealer

Question
To make a long story short I took my car to a Jiffy Lube and 5 miles later I am stalled out. The Saab 9-3 had 55,000 miles on it and no signs of trouble. I end up having it towed to the closest other Jiffy Lube for them to look at what happened. They have my car for a couple hours and have no idea. So I take it to two mechanics, the second being a Saab dealer.

Apparently the engine is destroyed. There's no compression, all pistons and cylinders are messed up, and the timing is off. Both mechanics feel that there must have been no oil in the car and the second Jiffy Lube filled it to cover the tracks. Nothing else seems likely to them as they have never seen an engine failure like this unless the car is run without oil.

So I ask, where can I have the mechanic look in the engine that will be a tell-tale sign that the car was run without any oil?

Answer
Does your idiot light work? The oil light? When you left Jiffy Lube was it on? Has the engine been cranked over since it left the 2nd Jiffy Lube? If not then you can remove the oil filter and see if there is any oil in there. If there is then you really don't know. If there is none then it likely left there with no oil in the engine. Certainly not the first time someone has left there without oil. A friend of mine had his differential drained by them , when they tried to sell him a differential service he declined. He drove off and his diff seized up-no oil in it. I personally would not take my car to one of those places ever. For the most part they are just young kids with an interest in cars, no fault of theirs. But they really don't have any business working on cars.
