Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): letter desigantion at end of model #, gear ratios, transaxles

Question
What's the difference between a Murray rider Mod #40702X92A and Murray rider Mod #40702X92C other than the transaxle. If the transaxles are interchangeable, it will give me more options of finding one.
Both are 5 spd. The 92A has a Dana 2000-09 and the 92C has a Dana
4360-9.

Thanks

Tom

Answer
Usually the last digit for Murray indicate the build year.

If the two transaxles look similar then most likely they will interchange.  Most transaxle manufacturers only offer a couple of casing designs within a series of transaxles.  There are standard input, output and mounting hole locations.  The primary differences are usually the number of speeds offered.  They put spacers in place of gears.  Gear ratios and axle length can be different.  Mower manufacturers order transaxles per their specs but must design the mounting locations to meet the transaxle casing specs.

Do you have pictures?  Not familiar with the Dana 2000-09.
