Chevrolet Repair: 2001 chevy sub - passlock - keyless entry, purple wire, batterys

Question
QUESTION: Our keyless entry battery was going dead, replaced batterys, but we are still having problems with the secruity/passlock (we think thats it)....We replaced batteries, sync'd them and then put key in iginition to run/on position for over 20 minutes, but not still not starting....we have power....  it did this the before we got the battery replaced, we left overnight,,,,,tried to start once, did not start, but tried again and it started.. - made two stops, started fine, then got the battery ...i then did the battery replacement and it didn't work,  waited about 30 minutes and it started.....came home and now it won't start again.

thanks

ANSWER: The batteries in the keyless entry remotes have nothing to do with the passlock system.  Sounds like you need a new passlock sensor.  Bring it to the dealer

QUESTION: THe dealer ran a diagnostic on it and came back and said it was the starter....this doesn't make much sense since it is still starting after leaving for a while.....could the diagnostic get this wrong?  Is 500 for a new starter and don't feel like spending that if it is just a glitch, because of the sensor

Answer
It very well could be the starter.  I was going by the information you were giving me.  If it clicks when you turn the key and it doesn';t start it very well is the starter.  The dealership should be able to see if there is power on the purple wire at the starter when it is failing.  If it did then you need a starter.
