Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Yardman/MTD Leaf blower, high tension, leaf blower

Question
Hello,

My Yardman (MDT) leaf blower will not start.  There is no spark.  High tension lead looks ok.  What are the reasons why there would be no spark?

Regards, James

Answer
John,

A couple of things to check.... Make sure you have a GOOD spark plug, perhaps its just a plug that is fouled out?  I am assuming that you are testing the spark by grounding the plug to the engine.

If you have spark...Problem solved

If you don't, remove the little black wire from the coil... The coil is located on the outside of the flywheel UNDER the blower housing...the high tension lead is attached to it

Try it again and see if you have spark,  IF you have spark you have a bad on/off switch, or interlock switch if so equipped

If still no spark you will need to replace your armature.  Armature is another word for Coil.  A new one will set you back about 40 bucks!

Let me know what you find...
