Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): honda hs828 auger transmission, shear pins, arinet

Question
QUESTION: Hi John,
I am attempting to replace the auger transmission case of the Honda HS828. I have the auger off, shear pins out and the transmission cover off but am having difficulty in removing the augers. Where do I go from here?

Thanks,

Steve

ANSWER: Hello Steve:

You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower/Engine at this Site Addy, http://hayward.arinet.com/scripts/EmpartISAPI.dll?MF&app=ASP&lang=EN&TF=Mainfram and Select the Catalog American Honda. Select the Snow Blower File. Now Scroll to your Model and Select it. Then Select the Section you Wish to View. Using the Breakdown at the Site Addy I Provided; Can you Give me a Better Idea of where you are at in the Disassembly. Do you have the Augers and Gear Box Out of the Auger Housing? Are you having Trouble Removing the Augers from the Auger Shaft? Thanks.

QUESTION: Thanks for the link. I have the entire auger and auger transmission out of the snow blower with shear pins out and transmission cover off. I need to replace the auger transmission case(The transmission case has a piece chipped out exposing the seal and leaking fluid). I need to know how to dismantle and replace. I cannot seem to remove the augers from the transmission.

Thanks,

Steve

Answer
Hello Again Steve:

Thanks. That Helps me a Lot. You will Most likely have to Soak the Connections of the Auger to the Auger Shaft with Penetrating Oil (I Use PB Rust Catalyst) and you May even Require Heat to Loosen Up the Connections. Usually I Start by Soaking the Connections and then Lightly Tapping the Auger at the Connection Point. This Jars the 2 Components and Helps the Penetrating Oil do its Job. I will Usually do this Several Times During the Day and even Allow the Connection to Soak Overnight. Then I Lock Gearbox so I can Twist and Pull the Auger on the Auger Shaft. If the Penetrating Oil Does Not Loosen the Auger from the Shaft, then Apply Heat to the Auger and then Remove the Auger from the Shaft. When Assembling the Unit, Use Never Seize on the Connections to Prevent this Problem from Occurring in the Future. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
