Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): JD L120 PTO problem, amp fuse, amp alternator

Question
The tractor blew the 20 amp fuse while mowing.  Changing the fuse didn't help, replacing the PTO switch worked for a brief time, then the fuse again blew.  Fuse now blows when the PTO switch is engaged, although the clutch no longer engages.  The clutch does engage when "hot wired".  I expect the clutch is shot and drawing too much current.  Mower runs fine when the PTO is not engaged.  BTW, JD dealer admits L120 is a bad tractor.  Ideas?

Answer
Hello Dave:

Your PTO is Drawing Too Much Amperage. The Alternator is Only 10 Amps. Have you Asked the Dealer About a Recall on the 10 Amp Alternator. I Read Somewhere that JD was having a Problem with the 10Amp Alternators Not Being of Enough Amperage to Handle the Electric PTO. This Low Current was Burning the Clutches. This was a Few Years Ago. If this Is Not the Tractor, then Replace the Clutch. From the Breakdown/IPL, It Looks like the Non Adjustable PTO. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
