Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S 12hp interchange?, briggs and stratton, folder number

Question
QUESTION: Hi. I have a 12 hp 28R707, 1120-E1, 030801ZD that was ran with no oil and locked up. I have since acquired a 281707, 0168-01, 88021011 and was wondering if they will interchange? If so what will I have to do extra to get it to work.
Also have a model 170707, 1190-01, 72122111 looking for a muffler would you happen to know a part # to get?
Thanks so very much for your answer(s) and hope you had a happy easter holiday.
ANSWER:   Hello Paul:

Check the Crankshaft Length and Diameter of the Locked Up Engine. If the Crankshaft is the Same on the Good Engine, then they will Interchange. As for a Muffler, The Model and Type Numbers Indicate the Part Number is B&S 390755. This is a Pancake Style Muffler that is Bolted onto the Engine Block. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

QUESTION: John
THANKS. Worked like a charm. Other than the older engine smokes BAD (although I purchased it knowing this) it did fit. I swapped over all the external parts ( Carb, Exhaust, etc...) I just needed something to get me by for a few weeks. Again Thanks SO much.
Just one other question about my antique 170707, 1190-01, 72122111. Do you by any chance know what a replacement carb's # would be or a Kit?
What engine could interchange with this one? It smokes REAL bad, would this be a canidate for a rebuild, seeing the age?  I guess what I am asking is opinion... what would you recommend. it is a sentimental mower, but I'll swap engines if I knew what engine(s) would exchange with it.
Thanks again SO much for your time and effort.
Respectfully
Paul

Answer
 Hello Again Paul:

Thanks for the Update. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Addy http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the B. Then Select Briggs and Stratton. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Select the File #17. Then Select the First Folder Number 170700. The Carburetor Part # is 390811 for the Choke-A-Matic and 390411 if Manual Choke. For Replacement Engine Information Call 1-877-707-2787. I Don't Suggest a Rebuild Anymore. A Short Block or a Complete Engine is the Best Way to Go. The Warranty and the Price of a Short Block or Complete Engine Makes the Cost of a Rebuild to Expensive. I Still Rebuild Engines, but for Specific Applications Only. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.
