Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Drive Belt Replacement on Lawn Mower, drive pulley, hi john

Question
Greetings from Canada Michael!  I have a 6.75 craftsman self-driven lawn mower.  I am currentltly replacing the drive belt since it has slowed up over the years.  I would have adjusted it but there isn't anywhere to adjust, just replace.  I'm having a heck of a time putting on the new one.  I've verified that it is the correct one but where it slips onto the drive pulley it is too tight. Do you recommend soaking it in hot water to soften it up or place it in the sun for a while. Or is there some other way? Thanks your time is appreciated.

Answer
Hi John,

Sorry for my delay which was due to the holiday.

I have run into this problem a few times.  Once, I was able to remove one or both pulleys, install the belt and replace them.
I don't think it will stretch if heated, due to the inner cord reinforcement.  You might just have to pry it on as you would when mounting a tire.

Good Luck.
Michael
