Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Toro 521 Snow Blower, internal passages, fuel stabilizer

Question
Hi,
I just picked up a used Toro 521 Snow Blower. I filled the gas tank, pumped the primer a few times and gas started flowing from the carburator until the tank just about emptied. The gas looked like it was coming from the bowl which is located at the bottom of the carburator. The previous owners said it worked last year and has been sitting under a tarp in the back yard.
Thanks,
Sam

Answer
You will need to thoroughly clean the carb, including pushing a piece of tag wire through all of the internal passages.  It is likely that fuel was left in the blower over the summer so it is a good idea to clean the entire fuel system and replenish with fresh fuel.  The gas is pouring out because the needle and seat is either hung up or there is debris under the needle.  You should see the problem when you remove the float bowl.  Before you are finished with the blower for the season, add fuel stabilizer to the last tank of fuel and let the blower run itself out of fuel.  Hope this helps.
