Steering Column Repair: steering wheel column, ford steering column, steering column repair

Question
Hi, I have a 2002 F150 4.6l triton pickup and the steering wheel is loose and can move up down and sideways.  Is there something I can tighten up or is something broken in the column?  It is a tilt column, but it shouldnt move left and right.

Answer
Hello Cole:

Sorry about your truck.  It sounds like your column has bad bearings in the upper housing assembly (as many fords do).
My company has recently uploaded web pages and a description of how to rebuild the upper portion of a Ford steering column (for a small fee).  They are broken down into step by step detailed instructions with pictures. Although the example is for a 2000 Mustang, the column is identical to yours (tilt and non tilt use the same housing)

I hope these instructions help you.  If not, please contact me again for more information.
Lastly, if you need parts to repair this column simply follow the links to the Ford Parts pages and select any of the parts you need.  We do provide a complete kit (BRG230) on this page.
