Steering Column Repair: ignition switch, ford territory, honest answer

Question
Would you be so kind as to advise me if the steering column can be reconditioned to repair the spring on the ignition switch that appears to be broken. My car is a ford territory tx 2005 model.
I have been told that the whole column needs to be replaced just because of a broken ignition switch, What a joke! did ford deliberately design the ignition so that it would cost people like me over $1500 to have the switch fixed. Did they not think that maybe we're not all rich?

I would like to say thankyou for taking the time to answer my question and would very much appreciate an honest answer.

Answer
Hi Vanessa:

Sorry about your truck.
As yours is an Australian vehicle, I have no information on servicing and repair procedures.  I looked up to see if it was similar to an American design and it is not (from what I can see).  I wish I could help you , but this one is outside my realm of information and experience, sorry
