Steering Column Repair: play in steering wheel, full size chevy, steering gearbox

I have a 94 full size Chevy blazer which has a lot of play in the wheel. New steering box has been installed and now extreme amount of free play , steering is great when turning. When wheel is lined up straight I can move steering wheel about 2 inch left to right  
before I feel the wheels start to turn.

Hi Tony:

It sounds like the new steering gearbox needs to be adjusted or you have other components in the steering system with worn ball & socket joints.  You will need someone to watch underneath when you turn the wheel to see if the steering gearbox is reacting or not.  If it is then the play exists in the linkages (tie rods, center link, etc).  If it does not respond to you turning it then the box needs readjusting
