Steering Column Repair: Canceling Cam Removal, 2000 chevy malibu, chevy malibu

Question
I'm replacing a turn signal canceling cam on a 2000 Chevy Malibu with a tilt column. I've gotten all the way down to the orientation plate which is the only part between me and replacing the canceling cam. I can't figure out how to remove this piece as it appears firmly stuck on the steering shaft. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Answer

gm lock plate adapter
Hi Donovan:

The cancel cam is held in place by a snap ring and locking plate on the shaft.  These parts are held on tightly by a strong spring beneath them all that you cannot see.  You will need 2 special tools to compress the lock plate and spring to remove (and install) the snap ring.

These are not tools that are available at Auto Zone, they are special tools typically found only at the dealers (and special order from the tool trucks).  I am enclosing a link to some of the suppliers of these tools if you need to pursue it  (Picture enclosed)
