Steering Column Repair: Stuck in Park, locking pin, cab 4x4

Question
I have a 2000 silverado x-cab 4x4/ Auto trans. I can't get the shifter to budge out of park, no previous problems, just acts like I'm not stepping on the brake. Truck has 225,000 mi.

Answer

typical shift interloc
Hi Lars:

This is a fairly common problem.  The shift interlock cable has jammed and is most likely bent preventing the locking pin from retracting when you step on the brake.  I have attached a picture of what you will be looking for after you remove the column covers.  You will need to remove the cable at one end or the other (preferably at the end where the shift lever is) to release the shifter.
Sometimes you have to take the shifter assembly off to do this and sometimes you can get it off without.

Good luck
Doug
