Steering Column Repair: 1974 Jimmy 4x4 ignition lock, chevrolet truck, retaining clip

I need to replace my ignition lock & am following the Chilton's manual. I have the steering wheel removed but can't see the 'slot' they talk about to insert a flat bar to release a retaining clip. Am I missing something that isn't outlined in the manual? Thanks in advance!!
