Steering Column Repair: shifting/power short, torx bolts, dash panel

Question
all right here is something i have not heard of, but it is happening to me.  My 1991 f350 w/ 73l diesel runs good and all, except...
column mounted automatic-
when it is in park, all electronics work.
when i shift into drive and release the lever really slowly, all works.
when i shift into anything besides park, and push the shift lever forward like normal, my blinkers and heat do not work.  no power to them.  neither the indicators or actual lights are getting power.

Answer

Ford Ignition switch
Hi Mitchel:

Sounds pretty weird, huh? Actually all that you have is a bad ignition switch.  It's a fairly common part failure for this design vehicle.  I've enclosed a picture of it for you to see and to replace it is really easy.
Remove the under dash panel below the steering column.  You will then see the switch mounted with 2 30 torx bolts.  Remove the bolts, unplug the harness and install the new switch.  There is no adjustment needed.  Just make sure the actuator rod sits inside the switch properly before you tighten it down.
If you look at the old one, you may be able to see the burned connector causing your dilemma
Good luck
