Steering Column Repair: steering colomn, chevy cobalt, chevy dealer

Question
In 2008, I had my steering column replaced on my 2005 chevy cobalt, which costed me $675. My mother (car is registered under her for insurance purposes) called the chevy dealer I got it replaced at and they told her that they cant give me a claim to get a refund b/c only the power steering motor is being recalled not the steering column. My question is, wouldn't the power steering motor have been replaced when they replaced the steering column???

Answer

chevy cobalt steering
Hi Brandon:
You are correct.  the motor (which is under the recall) is part of the steering column assembly.  I think, the recall will only pay for the motor and labor, not the entire steering column, but you should still recover a portion of your cost.

Try again or try another GM dealer.  It doesn't have to be your original Chevy dealer, any GM dealer should be able to help you

Good luck
