Steering Column Repair: 94 s-10, chevrolet truck, tilt column

Question
MY 94 s-10 blazer auto steering column shifter broke off @ the column so i bought a used column. What is my best approach to repair? Remove whole steering column or start@ steering wheel??

Answer
Hi Patrick:

I you trust the column you bought and the switches are all the same (wipers- with or without delay, cruise), then swap out the columns completely.  If not, then you need to tear down 2 columns and rebuild 1.  I prefer to do that in the truck, leaving the tube fastened at the floor for support.

We have recently uploaded some videos on our company website to give you first hand viewing of how to remove, disassemble, and reassemble the loose tilt column you are talking about. They are broken down into step by step 2-3 minute detailed videos with instructions. Although the videos are for a Chevrolet truck, the column is very similar to yours.
