Steering Column Repair: Horn, chevy s10 pickup, s10 pickup

Question
The Horn does not work on my 1998 Chevy S10 pickup.  Where is the horn located?  I checked the fuse and its ok.  How do I check the switch behind the air-bag?
Thanks,
Walt

Answer
Hi Walter:
The switch behind the airbag and steering wheel that has the horn circuit in it is the multifunction switch.  You can access the horn contact of that switch without too much trouble to test grounding the horn circuit.  If the horn blows or you hear a click when you ground that contact, then the problem is not in the column.  Once again, it is a ground circuit so you will not see or test any power in the column.  The power stops at the horn relay and that's what sends the power to the horn itself.
We have recently uploaded pages and a description of how to replace the multi-switch on GM vehicles.  They are broken down into step by step detailed instructions. Here is a link to that page.  You can use them to at least get to the switch.

I hope these instructions help you.

As far as the location of the horn, I believe it's tucked in either corner of the fender either behind the battery or the washer bottle.  Some are behind the grill and in front of the radiator, but always on one side or the other (not in the center)
