Steering Column Repair: auto repair, correct signal, antitheft

Question
i had to change out my steering column in 2001 stratus cause i lost the key, it will turn over now but wont start what are some things that can cause this and how can i fix it

Answer

Immobilizer
Hi Chris:
Wow, The reason it's not starting is because the immobilizer on the replacement column does not match the antitheft (skim) key code for the vehicle.  Here's how it works.  The key talks to the immoblizer.  The immobilzer talks to the car computer.  When all 3 have sent the correct signal to each other, the computer allows the fuel pump to continue to run.  Otherwise, it just shuts down.  There is no way around this

You are still going to have to have a key programmed to your car, but you have added another twist.  You need to carefully replace the immobilzer from the original column and install it on the replacement column.  I have enclosed a picture of the part.  It's located and accessed by removing the lower column cover and taking out the 20 torx bolt that holds it in place.  DO NOT BREAK THE CIRCLE PART!  If you don't have it, you;re screwed because you cannot reprogram them, you will have to buy a new one for another $96.00.  Hopefully you have it and it's not broken.

Once installed and plugged in, you then need the keys you are using to be programmed to that immobilize.  You need to have a Chrysler scanner to reprogram the keys again.
