Steering Column Repair: Ignition lock replacement, mercury villager, torx driver

Question
Hi how do I remove and replace the ignition lock in a 1995 Mercury Villager.I have already bought the new ignition lock.
         Thanks Richard

Answer
Hi Richard:

This is one of the simpler replacements.
If you look at the new lock cylinder you will see a small locking pin on the bottom side.  Turning the key to the 'run' position allows you to push that release pin in. So....
Looking at the bottom of the column cover there are 3 holes with screws in them and one that has nothing in it...it's open.  Turn the existing lock cylinder to the 'run' position, (you don't need to start the truck) and using a small probe (I use a 20 torx driver) push the release pin in by going through the hole in the cover that has no screw.  You may want to look inside to see where you are pushing.  The covers do not even have to come off, but if you are having trouble seeing it or pushing it, go ahead and take the lower cover off.
Once the pin is pressed, the lock cylinder will slide out.

That's it
Let me know how you did
