Subaru Repair: 1999 subarua legacy outback, legacy outback, brake light switch

There are 2 problems that may or may no be related.  First off, when I go from park to drive there is a 5 seconds delay before the transmission engages.  I have checked the transmission fluid and it is full.  Also there is an problem with the dashboard gauges.  The speedometer works only intermitantly and the cruise control doesn't work at all.

Ok for the transmission delay its possible the filter is resticted.Usually when you have a delay into gear the transmission pressure is low.This can be caused by a restricted filter but can also be something more severe.The good news is that i have seen many a Subaru have that symptom and never replace the transmission.
The speede ,most likely the speedo unit in the dash cluster very common for the 1999 legacy and Outback.As far as the cruise start with checking the brake light switch.
