Towing Issues: Car towed after alarm apparently went off, british columbia canada, active in the yard

Question
Hello!

I live in British Columbia Canada (Vancouver).

I got off work this evening (I work the evening shift, 2PM-10PM) and when I returned to my apartment at 10:30PM (I walk to work), I found a note taped to my door. The note was written by the apartment manager's 'assistant' and stated that my car had been towed because the alarm was going off and it was upsetting the neighbors. This has NEVER happened before so obviously someone either hit my car or tried to break in, my alarm is good and does not engage unless it is really forced (hit hard, window broken, door opened, etc.). The car was towed at 8:59PM (not like 2AM or anything). My landlord did not attempt to call my cell phone and notify me of the alarm, claiming he did not have my contact info (which is untrue, of course he has my phone number).

Now, my real concern is that the police were not involved. If the police were not called due to a noise disturbance and the tow truck towed my car anyway because the 'assistant' apartment manager told them to would this be an illegal tow? Also, what happens when the vehicle gets towed? Do they disconnect the battery to stop the alarm or do they just let it kill my battery?

Thank you so much!

Answer
Generally vehicles towed for alarms going off, are towed cause of the noise...   I have done many of them and while its annoying, we have at times done both, leave the alarm active in the yard or we have unlocked the vehicle and unhooked the battery to stop the alarm.

Now if the assistant manager decided that it needed to be towed, then it was done and authorized by him... He is the final person to make the ruling about it...

Is it a legal or illegal tow?   Well that would be up to a judge to decide but it sounds as if it was legal to me. But then I am not there and did not see it or hear it...

Sorry that I really can not provide much of an answer, as I really do not have much luck checking out Canadian rules and regulations regarding towing.
