Towing Issues: I Took My Car Back Part 2, city basis, county basis

Question
I was parked illegally and they towed and hid my car a few blocks away. They moved it to a private office parking lot that they don't own. I found the car and took it. The tow truck guy saw me a week later and said to pay the bill or he's going to press charges. I said no. Is it legal for them to hide my car this way? Rocville, MD

Answer
Actual "legal" answers to this are hard to say as it all depends on the Judge ruling in the case...

What they did seems wrong to "stage the vehicle" and I can not find a solid definite answer as to if it is legal...

Maryland has so many laws regarding towing of vehicles, on a state basis, county  basis and even City basis that it makes searching next to impossible...

If I really had to say or provide an answer as to if it was legal, I would tend to agree that they took the chance when they left it in the parking lot and the roll of the dice came up with them losing. It might of been a greed thing, I think they might of been trying to make as much money as possible there...

As to pressing charges, well that would be interesting to see what happens... I would tend (personally) to say go for it and see what really happens. But I would also keep enough money around to take care of the problem if they did...

After all it is easy to go to court and see if you have to pay or not, than get arrested and deal with all those issues.
