Towing Issues: Was tow cause of problem?, different blues, recommended limits

Question
My car was towed initially with a lift and then supposedly placed on a flatbed afterwards.  I know it was towed at least part of the way with a lift because, damages done to the back of the car, which the tow company has already paid to have repaired.  I am now having problems with the transmission.  What is the likelihood that the problems are from the vehicle being improperly towed?  Since the car was towed, the car has been driven maybe 2000 miles.  Then suddenly the transmission was gone without warning.  Would it take this long for the transmission issue to come up?  Or would it have been immediate?

The car was towed in Somerville, MA.  It is a 2003 Ford explorer.

Answer
Transmission damages have several ways of showing up, one is IMMEDIATE, and then there are damages which show up at a later date...

Things like overheating the fluid or towing it beyond the recommended limits do tend to show up at later dates..

But I really can not tell you if they did it, as I am not a transmission mechanic, I can not see it, and I was not there when it was towed and do not know all the details...

A transmission shop should be able to provide some kind of an answer after they tear it down and look at it...

But if I remember correctly, that era of Explorers did have issues with the transmissions also...

Sorry for not being specific on the answer, but this is one of those kind of questions, kind of like what color is really blue, when we have 100 different blues...
