Towing Issues: Confronting Tow Truck, bad apples, solid answers

Question
I too experience a similiar problem. However, I walked outside before they even started to tow the car. He would not let me move the car. I kept asking what he would want to leave the car and he told me, there was not amount of money I could give him. Main while the car was not attached yet or on the tow bed. I still kept asking ask they were putting the car onto the tow truck bed. I live in Maryland and am wondering if their is a similiar law like in California or if there is anything I can do.

Answer
I am not aware of any law in Maryland like what is in effect in California...

But "GENERALLY" if the tow truck is not even hooked up to the vehicle, then it is not able to be charged for... Now I might be wrong in Maryland, as I know there are several laws there which affect towing, but most are City laws or county laws.

Also the issue would be a civil matter if the police were called to the location and they most likely would not be able to do much of anything.
Now before I get in trouble here or get negative feedback, I have to say there are many "RESPONSIBLE and PROFESSIONAL" towing companies out there, and there are also a lot of "bad apples" who give the industry a bad name.

Since I was not there, and did not see what was happening I can not really provide an answer with 100 percent solid answers to your question, but to me it sounds a bit shady and possibly illegal.

Did the vehicle get towed or did you get it back at the location for a "drop fee" or what, could also depend on various laws in effect also...

Plus remember that laws and regulations are written but open to different understandings  by judges, lawyers, and the general public and as such there is always a "it means this" type problem...

I hope this helped but it really does sound fishy to me... Check with the local police and they might be able to point you to the laws which are in effect for your area.
