Towing Issues: Towing from Handicapped space, school resource officer, handicap parking placard

Question
I live in Greensboro, NC. My son was issued a temporary handicap parking placard after severely injuring his leg. His surgeon, who authorized the placard, said that it allowed him to park in a handicapped space at school. So he properly displayed the placard and properly parked in a HC parking space. He was told by the deputy sheriff (school resource officer), via the school principal, that he was not authorized to park anywhere at school and his car would be towed if he parked there again. When I asked why, I was told that his car would be towed because he did not have a sticker that authroized him to park in the student parking area.

My son does not have a student parking sticker only because there were no parking spaces available when he got his license to drive, but aren't these seperate issues? It seems to me that one is a school policy and the other a state law. What is your advice?

Answer
well you are right on the 2 separate issues, but the school permit is going to be a key here... If they require the permit then I would work on getting one for the vehicle. Handicapped permits only allow parking in those spaces, and as such you still have to comply with the other conditions when on private property... Public property (the school maybe public but it is still private property in these terms) has different rules and regulations concerning handicapped parking.

I would work it out with the school and see what can happen, before you get the vehicle towed.
