Towing Issues: Towing enforcement by apartments, 20 inch tires, inspection stickers

Question
Hello Richard, I am still researching this area, I live in Laurel, MD (Howard county).  Can an apartment complex have one of their residents vehicles towed if the plates are expired?  What if it is out of state tags and expired, can those be towed also?  My apartment complex recently contracted with a local towing company to start patrolling the parking areas and tow vehicles with expired tags, am still new to the state and am not sure if this is legal.  Appreciate any info you can provide, thanks.

Answer
Again this question comes up, and the answers are always the same...

YES the apartment owners - management can make up rules and regulations for parking of vehicles, and the towing of such...

If they want to ban purple vehicles with 20 inch tires from parking then they have the rights... It is private property and they can do kind of what they want to do...

EXPIRED TAGS are one of the most common reasons for towing vehicles out of apartment and condos...

Sorry but it does not matter if state law requires inspection stickers, or current tags to be legal to drive down the road, the property owner does make the rules in this case.
