Towing Issues: tow damage front spring, flatbed trucks, broken spring

Question
Can a tow truck cause a front coil spring (in strut) to break (snap)?  My car was
towed fper a broken drive belt. I found the tire rubbing and a broken spring in
the tire well. I was not there when the tow truck took my vehicle.  Car was
towed in CT to Mass.

Answer
While towing vehicles, there is "always a chance" that damage can happen but it sounds like this might of been something due to fatigue of the part..

Generally a vehicle is lifted by the tires allowing the vehicle to ride on its own suspension just like going down the road... Yes there are flatbed trucks but the vehicle still rides on its suspension...

I do not know what kind of tow truck did the tow (like you) but it's highly unlikely that the tow truck "DID THE DAMAGE" it just sounds as if it finally gave up... Remember that the area up there is using deicer's and as such they do have some that do eat at the metal. That could of been what happened over a period of time and exposure.
