QuestionMy car hauling "hobbie" has grown to the point where I would like to get into the towing/recovery business full time. I am able to purchase a hauler/wrecker and would like some suggestions as to where I can research the business. Example insurance, mile rates, pick up/hook up charges and any ideas to get started. I am 52, sold my existing business and am looking to now do something I enjoy. I am in good shape money wise, so I am assuming that there will be some ramp up time to getting this business flowing with black ink. Any thoughts or ideas??? Thank you for your time and ideas. MJR
Answerwell there is no "hard and fast" guide for starting a towing service... I have thought about doing a "tow companies for dummies" book...
There are several towing forums online where you can gain information, find out "GENERAL INFORMATION" and all that...
As to the rates to charge, well it depends on your cost of doing business. Remember you need to cover costs and make a small profit to grow a business into a success...
BUT I want to also point out that the towing industry is full of rules and regulations, cut rate operators, and daily increasing costs (fuel)...
check out the following links and you might gain some information...
www.tow411.net
www.towtalk.net
www.ppphdbilling.yuku.com
and then there are some towing magazines out there
www.towtimes.com
www.towman.com
www.trfootnotes.com
hope this helps
