Towing Issues: How long before notification of tow, section 29a, tow company

Question
A car was recently towed in the state of Massachusetts by the State Police.  The Tow company that towed the car did so on 11/21/2007 but did not notify the owner until January 11, 2008.  Is there a required time line that the Tow company has to inform the owner that they have possession of his/her vehicle?

Answer
well I did some searching and only found this section concerning timing of notifications...

***********************

Chap. 119.   An Act requiring police to give notice to the owner
OF A STOLEN OR MISAPPROPRIATED MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN SUCH  VEHICLE  IS   RECOVERED.
Be it enacted, etc., as follows:
Chapter 266 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after section 29 the following section: —
Section 29A. Whenever a stolen or misappropriated motor vehicle is recovered by a police officer or other law enforcement officer, the police department shall notify the owner of record as soon as practicable after the identity of the owner is determined. ' Such notification may be made by letter, telephone call or personal visit to the owner and shall include information as to the location of the recovered vehicle, the amount of the towing and storage charges, if any, and that the garage keeper has a lien on the motor vehicle for such charges.
Approved April 1, 1971.

It seems that the police are the ones who do notifications (which I find strange but it does work I guess)

I hope that helps...  I would check with the police and see if they are supposed to do the notifications or if it was the tow company.   I know that in most cases it is the tow company doing the notifications...
