Towing Issues: Using tow dolly with car backed on, tow dolly, safety chains

Question
I have a custom off road VW that I would like to pull behind a motor home. Due to unusually low gearing I would need to get the rear end of the pavement. I find conflicting information about the use of a tow dolly in this manner.
FYI vehicles licensed in Wyoming and used throughout USA.
Thanks

Answer
Ok, Lynn  I am not sure what kind of conflicting information you are getting but it is possible to tow the VW backwards as long as it fits on the tow dolly.. Load it backwards and then tie it down with the wheel straps and put on the safety chains...
Get the front wheels straight and then use either a ratchet strap wrapped around the steering wheel (at the bottom) and then hook it to the bottom frame rails of the front seat..
You can also loop a rope round the side of the steering wheel and run it out the front edge of the door, and then tie a few knots in it to keep it secure. This is done to keep the front wheels straight while being towed...

Either use the lights on the dolly or you can use magnetic tow lights and keep them on the front end of the vehicle (unless it is fiberglass)

Hope this helps you with your project..
