Towing Issues: finding a tow dolly, 2005 dodge durango, dodge durango

Question
We are looking at towing a 2005 Dodge Durango by a 2006 Dodge 3500 - 1 ton truck and can't fina a tow dolly in Ca that we can return in AZ. And every one we have found we've been told the Durango is too heavy for.  Any help?

Answer
While this question is really outside of my area of expertise, I have some answers for you.

Well if U-Haul and either Budget or Ryder say that it is to heavy to tow the Durango (approx 5000 pounds) with the dodge truck (approx 6500 pounds) then you kind of have to respect their rules and policies.

Unfortunately they do have the rights to refuse to overload or place their equipment, liability and of course YOU in risk for improper usage of the equipment.

All the rental companies have done lots of research on what will work and what will not work, as it is really more than just the weight issue... The dodge 1 ton steering, braking and even the power to accelerate will all be affected when you are trying to tow something, and as such they want to be safe in allowing use of their equipment in todays "sue happy" nation...

As to suggestions, well there is really no good answer here for a tow dolly, and I believe the Durango will be to heavy for the use of a car trailer...  Check with a regular tow company if the vehicle does not run and see if you can work out something with them. At times tow trucks go places empty to get other vehicles.

Or you can drive both of them by using a friend or such.  There are also commercial businesses that do offer driveaway services also..

I know most of these suggestions are not really what you are looking for as answers, but its the best I can give on this issue.
